Art + Community
At M.K. Contemporary Art, we believe art is bigger than what hangs on the walls. It’s about connection, community, and showing up for each other. Giving back is at the heart of what we do, because when artists thrive, the entire Santa Cruz community thrives.
That’s why we are proud to support two community-driven initiatives:
Ripple Effect Arts Festival
Our way of celebrating the incredible creativity of Santa Cruz. For 11 days in April, the county will come alive with art, music, performance, and culture. The festival not only shines a spotlight on the depth of our local talent but also builds new connections between artists, visitors, and the community. It’s about making Santa Cruz a true arts destination - together.

Santa Cruz Artists Assistance & Relief Fund (SCAARF)
SCAARF was started back in 2009 by local artists Sara Friedlander and Dee Hooker to help fellow artists through hard times. Over the years, it has provided emergency grants to Santa Cruz County artists facing illness, natural disasters, or unexpected hardships.
Now, in partnership with our fiscal sponsor Fractured Atlas, we’re honored to help carry this effort forward. 100% volunteer-driven, SCAARF remains a safety net for professional visual artists who need support when life takes an unexpected turn.
