Jane writes about this series, "I loved the clarity of the image of the lone bird I’d found on a walk. I kept printing it, (photopolymer plate) using various tones, trying two plates (sticks) for background color, trying various weights and shades of papers. But after all this I looked at the pile of prints and said to myself: “So what?” At this point I took scissors in hand and began cutting the printed birds out and found a whole new renewed interest. And I loved the backgrounds, in various tones, which reflected the pebbled cement where the bird lay. Suddenly I was having fun. I made over 70 of these but when the series was somewhat finished I took all the scraps I’d saved and constructed those into 3 compositions."
